Many unpleasant experiences are associated with hospitals. When I made the drawing of the Ludwigsburg hospital, a violent storm was raging, red lights were flashing, and the helicopter was landing. It must have been a matter of life and death. The palm tree, which evokes feelings of vacation and warmer climates, seemed completely out of place. But there it was – somehow, that was fitting... When I was drawing the Marstall Center – an architectural eyesore from the 1970s – a man came up to me and told me he lived right there (see arrow). A wonderful spot, because "it's the only place in Ludwigsburg where you can't see the building." Fineliner, colored, 32 x 32 cm, 2018

I had originally intended to draw the bustling activity in Ludwigsburg's market square. A man was watching my progress so intently that I (already slightly annoyed) asked if I could draw him. He agreed, but then kept making comments like, "Light is good. Not too dark," so I finally asked him if he wouldn't rather finish the drawing. He sat down and added various plants to the upper part of the drawing. Eventually, he told me that he had fled Afghanistan and his name was Abdul. In the end, we were both pleased with the result. The view from the 14th floor of a hotel in Frankfurt am Main. A huge, glowing euro symbol loomed over the fog-shrouded skyline. New York - 7th Avenue - January 6, 2016 ...New York is an Eldorado for urban sketching... Although I tend to use color sparingly in my drawings, I would have loved to work with even more extreme (neon) tones in NYC. The city is so colorful and multifaceted..., fineliner, colored, 50 x 17.5 cm, 2016
